Check engine light came on today and I got a message in FordPass, "The Service Engine Soon light indicates that your vehicle has detected an electrical concern with the outside air temperature sensor. The Engine Start/Stop feature (if equipped) could be disabled when this fault is present. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible."
How serious is this to the daily use? If I don't use the remote start, I should be okay, right? I have a road trip planned early tomorrow morning through Friday night. Will The Silver Bullet be okay for 1000 miles or-so?
From my understanding, the worst thing it could do is jack with the operation of the a/c on your truck.
Cause it to keep the compressor from kicking in like it should, so the a/c wouldn't cool as well.
I cleared the code and drove the truck around several hundred miles yesterday, no issue - and the check engine light stayed off. That's one good thing about the FordPass app - I got a message as soon as the code was tripped. Maybe it was just a passing electrical gremlin that came and went.
Well, this code popped back up today. I was driving through rain from Beryl and watched the temp gauge run from 83 degrees to 185 degrees in about 10 mins, this got two dashes on the screen and a check engine light...
Looks like a trip to the dealer is needed.
Do you guys think this is a faulty sensor, a bad connection, or a bad reading/processing? I found a sensor - they're cheap, either from Ford or from Amazon. Do you think just replacing the sensor will fix it?

might but if under warranty, have them do it instead.
For $8.99 I may see if I can avoid a trip to the dealer. If the sensor fixes it, I can make a 5 minute job out of it. The dealer will take a trip and a half day.
