Front engine mount differences, '65 F-350
But I recently discovered another "gotcha"... the F-350 also retained the cast iron timing cover to support a single front engine mount for '65 and '66. I built an engine from a later model block but that uses the two side mounts and an aluminum cover.
When I removed the iron cover from the engine that was in the truck (a '69 360, not the original 352) I found a lot of orange RTV. So the previous owner had swapped over the iron cover too... I bought the truck in '00.
The solution, once the cast iron cover is in place, is to buy new mounts for the correct chassis year and type. I have learned that '61-'66 F-100 and F-250 4WD fit, as does ordering the mount for '61-'66 F-350.
The p/n is TFAA-6038-A (top "brick") and TFAA-6039-A (bottom "doughnut". So far so good.
I ordered both from Classic & Obsolete Auto Parts with a flat $12.99 shipping charge. What arrived was the correct top part, and a bag with the right P/N (and their SKU) but containing a huge "dogbone" that is nowhere to be found on my truck OR the later model '67-'72. Also they charged me $18.00 for shipping.
I sent an email explaining the situation and their reply, obviously paying little attention to my complaints, was "for the right part you have to order TAAA-6039-A". This is, of course, nonresponsive as well as wrong! So I sent the pictures below which include THEIR OWN WEBPAGE showing that TFAA-6039-A is the right doughnut. They have chosen not to respond and I've entered a dispute with my credit card. It's only $19 but I am not going to have some order clerk pee in my ear and tell me it's raining. Unfortunately it looks like Chase Visa will just write off and credit me the small amount, so Classic Auto Parts will go right on shipping the wrong part and providing poor customer service!
So if you have a '65 or '66 F-350 you may already know about these problems, but the engine mounts (one in front, two on the bellhousing) are also a holdover from earlier years.
The part Classic Auto Parts sent me, in a bag with the correct p/n and SKU
A Genuine Ford part... notice TFAA is actually molded into the part. Not TAAA!
Label matches the Genuine Ford part, too.
Classic Auto Parts' own webpage listing showing that TFAA-6039-A is indeed the correct number, and a pic of the correct part!
