E40D shifting issues

E40D shifting issues
I have a 1995 5.8l efi with a automatic e40d 4x4 it is having shifting problems 1st 2nd reverse park and neutral all work fine but when shifted into drive it acts like its in neutral rpms don't climb will just sit there an rev when pressing gas was low on trans fluid but put more and still didn't work what happened to cause this problem is my dad got the old one replaced because it broke didn't bother to check the trans fluid after and towed a trailer that was too heavy because of how gear ratio is set guessing it overheated from being overworked ever since then wouldn't go into drive after check engine isn't on or overdrive light isn't flashing it isn't shifting hard or grinding when shifting doesn't leak fluid just doesn't shift could it still be something like the solenoid pack or valve body but it just isn't setting off lights if anyone has an answer let me know fluid didn't smell burnt when it was low check engine light does work has went off for broke water pump

So it doesn't rev when it revs? But it does rev? I don't understand what you mean.

like the rpm doesn't climb while its idling i have read that it happens sometimes when transmission is broke like when you don't press the gas or nothing try to shift doesn't shift and the rpms are just going up was trying to say that isn't happening just incase someone suggested that so it works like normal press gas rpm goes up to but it wont move

Nevermind on that part The rpms work perfectly fine it’s just when you press on the gas in drive the vehicle won’t move I’m just saying it weird

I'm having some E4OD issues as well, but behind a 4.9 2wd.
