I'm thinking of getting my old 223 six running again soon.
The oil is all clear because it must have never worked since the segmentation was redone but I am going to do an oil change anyway.
I cranked the engine by hand (2 turns), it seems to run freely but do you think I should put some oil or diesel into the cylinders through the spark plug wells before cranking it with the starter ?
How long did it sit since the last run?
I think oil would not hurt unless you put a lot in and it hydro locks.
Might put oil in then crank it over with out the plugs to blow any extra oil out then put plugs in.
I dont know how the oil filter is set up on that motor but you might want to fill it so the motor dose not have to crank so long with out oil psi.
That bring up this next thing. Maybe pull the dist. and turn the oil pump with a drill to build psi. Give a 1/4 turn and build psi, 1/4 turn psi etc. till you made at least 1 full turn 2 would be better then drop the dist. back in.
This way oil has been pumped thru out the motor before start up.

I don't know how long it's been since this hasn't worked. I just know that at one point the engine was opened, the segmentation redone and the oil pump replaced but that's it... It runs well by hand, no particular noise, nothing "catches", when I turn it by hand we hear an expulsion noise in the exhaust (pschtt). I undid the spark plugs to check them and screwed them back in without tightening them so it turns quite easily by hand.
It's really to prevent the cylinders from being dry, that's why I thought, remove the spark plugs, put a little oil in the wells, make several revolutions by hand then put the spark plugs back.
Then I start with the starter without connecting the contact so that the oil goes everywhere and finally I test with the contact and gasoline of course.

Do you think it's okay like that?
Yes, that is perfectly fine, if not preffered.
Give er a go!
