I bought an engine 4 years ago and still havn't used it. What damage has this caused internally? I recently heard that I should have run the engine with some lubricant and shut it down before storage
It was started on the stand for the initial run and re torque.so it was and has been oiled on that side of the piston but my concern is on the dry side of the piston and cylenders
You may squirt some oil in spark plug holes or spray a oil fogger in cylinder. With spark plugs still out, turn engine over by hand numerous times. Would still prime oil pump till good oil pressure showed or oil coming out of all rocker arms. Good Luck
when i build a motor, i coat with assembly lube or lucas, and then seal it and store it till needed. before firing, i prime the oil system with a pre-luber, or if it is a car engine, i use an old distributor and drill. most of the diesels will sit for 3-4 years. i had a 289 that sat for 9 years before using, a 351M that sat for 5 years, a 391 that sat for 5-6 years, and a 327 chevy i built for the corvette i wrecked in 1980 that has been sitting for 26 years now.
all the motors saw at least 100,000 miles after install except the 327. that is getting put into my nephews 64 nova sometime in the next 2 weeks.
