I have read and researched for a few months and have come to the conclusion that I am going to install a battery kill switch. I know there is nothing you can do to stop someone if they really want your vehicle. I want to keep them out of it and stop the ability to quickly start it and drive off. We have several vehicles across different manufacturers that are remote start with fobs. Yes, I am aware of faraday pouches/boxes, Ravelco, etc. I just want the vehicle to be basically dead in the water until I connect the battery again. My question is this: has anyone had issues with disconnecting the battery and any electrical/black box problems after installing a battery disconnect?
It would reset the learning and set systems every time the batteries are disengaged.
I like the idea but maybe have a switch to the battery cable to starter.
Just spitballing here, but wouldn't it be outrageous if you had a way to remove the shifter, and carry it with you?
I can just picture a thief that successfully breaks into the truck, uses one of those sophisticated electronic jimmies to start the truck, then goes to grab for the shifter to put it in gear, and... WTF?? LOL

Anyway, just an entertaining thought.
Lol, yes, that would be funny! Slowing them down is great but I really want to keep them out of the truck all together, if possible. I just don't want to damage any electronics when I disconnect the battery. I won't use all the time; only when we go to sketchy places.
I strongly recommend against disconnecting the battery.... especially in sketchy places. If there is a problem with the keep alive memory (KAM) who know what the ECU will do. Would you frequently remove the battery from your cell phone, hoping that all the important information is saved?
A starter kill relay would be easy to install and would get around the disadvantages of disconnecting the battery. If I had a keyless fob, I'd probably do the same.
Ummm....remote entry and remote starting; excuse me if I'm wrong, but seems as though sketchy neighborhoods and dicey situations should have figured as a couple of basic arguments for their development, doesn't it? I mean, if I was cooking and dealing meth those options would be way ahead of spinners on MY hoopty hit parade. Just sayin'...Now, a remote starter cable kill switch on your key fob that can be triggered on the run? Well, now yer talkin' sense!
Pull fuse #40, pink 30 amp, and starter solenoid circuit is with out power. Cant start and engine obviously wont turn over. Better still, insert a known blown fuse in its place to cover your tracks.
Always the chance some dude is scoping you out as you park vehicle, sitting behind tinted glass waiting, and sees you raise the hood......this stuff happens!
Its the empty slot with two pins visible in picture. Fuse box in engine bay near battery, and is actually easy to access.
If you do the battery kill switch…would recommend some type of inrush limiter or a charging resistor…there is a lot of initial current evident by the sparks when you reconnect batteries….daily discharge and rapid charging of the electronics can’t be good and too easy to mitigate.
