I am towards the end of my rebuild of the FE 390 in my 73 F-350. I’m having a problem finding the right push rods to fit. More towards finding the 3/8” ball on a 9.5in push rod. I order what I thought were the right ones but they came with 5/16” bal ends and oil through. Has anyone else ran into this problem, or am I just an anomaly?
Stock pushrods are usually 5/16 as I recall. it depends on your rockers .
If you haven't checked your preload you should. if you milled the heads or decked it you have to check it. if you need customs Smith Bros will make you exactly what you need .

I have already checked length and added for preload. The ball ends are 3/8” the shafts are 5/16”. The problem is finding that combination. I keep finding 5/16”ball ends and I’m not sure they would last in a 3/8” dish of the rocker or lifter.
I believe you need a 5/16 ball on the lifter and a 3/8" ball on the rocker. I never pay attention because I just tell Smith bros what I'm working on and the length and they give me what I need.
Finding that combination shouldn't be difficult, if it is they can make you anything and in any length you desire.
