Compression Test Tools Question

Preparing to perform a compression test on the truck as a result of a existing post and having issues acquiring the correct tools. Most posts and the tech folder procedure reference an old HF (Pittsburgh) Diesel Compression Test Kit that appears to have a quick connect to 1/8" NPTF adapter which allows use of a grease gun hose and a special (Amazon order) 1/8" NPTF to 10mm OBR fitting.

I've run into an issue with the new HF compression test kit (Maddox MT91) in that I don't have the quick connect to 1/8" NPTF adapter. The other end of the quick connect is close to 8M thread (checked on store thread board) which does not allow a grease gun hose. Additionally this is the location of the Schrader style check valve (MBE). Again, I'm assuming these are 8M based on checking at the hardware store, but maybe they're VG 5 or VG 8 standard for Schrader valves.

Either way idk how to utilize this tool to perform the test. The only other thing I've thought of is to swap the gage to the other end of the hose, but the provided hose and end pieces may still be too large to clear push rods and rockers. I almost need a Male-Female 8M pressure hose. I haven't had a chance to check local hydraulic shops, but before I make a fool of myself, I thought I'd take my chances with this group.

Quick connect on pressure hose to gauge.

Glow plug adapter on quick connect. Quick connect separated from pressure hose swivel.

Check valve quick connect piece separated from pressure hose swivel.

Left: Male-to-Male Schrader Style Check Valve Right: Quick connect with 10M glow plug adapter

Due to the geometry of the 7.3's glowplug holes in the heads, you will have to do some MacGyvering to get that adapter to fit. The fact that the quick connect nipple is an integral part of the adapter complicates things. Best thing I can think of is to steal the quick connect nipple off that adapter in the background, braze a tube onto the adapter that fits the 7.3's glowplug hole, then braze the quick connect nipple from the other adapter onto the tube. Also, does the adapter that fits the 7.3's glowplug hole go all the way in without the hex portion contacting the surrounding head material? I had to grind the hex off of my adapter for it to fully seat in the hole.

Is this what you mean with brazing the two together?

The 7.3L GP adapter is actually pretty small and does not contact the head. I believe it was a different size socket, but I was able to thread it all the way in with no issue. Getting the gauge hose with quick connect down in there is the issue.

Yes, but I was thinking of this nipple. Either one should work.

You are using the 7.3 IDI adapter. The powerstroke 7.3 adapter comes on a hose, which in the HF kit is too fat to fit anyway. You need to buy Lang Tools, or OTC to fit it around the rockers. I've considered cutting the fitting, and crimping on a 2nd hose just so I have two adapters but haven't yet.

I'll be damned, I completely missed the "up to 1994" in the adapter list. The adapter still fit the glow plug, but the other end of the gauge hose wouldn't fit. I say the adapter fit, it at least threaded in, idk if it had a good deal.

I'll check out the two you suggested and get something ordered. Thanks!!

Ended up buying the OTC 6076 Compression Test Adapter and Lang Tools TU-15 Diesel Compression Tester and it worked like a charm. Should have started there from the beginning instead of wasting all that time to save a few bucks.
