I'm looking towards the AC side of my 76 f150 resurrection. I had planned on a sanden compressor retrofit with my oe ac system. Now I'm reconsidering this and looking around at replacement york compressors. My system worked but lost its freon in a few days last time I filled it. I'm figuring the front seal was leaking as my culprit. I don't think I'll like the look under hood of the sanden on this application also as the tensioner bracket will be kind of orphaned out in the middle of nowhere.
What's the consensus on this. I'm NOT interested in an aftermarket system for this rig.
There are several videos on line. That carbon ring is fragile, my first seal kit it was broke on arrival.
I was gonna put it back in the truck and flush the system and recharge .... but then it needed hoses too, and the condenser broke at a fitting as I was trying to remove a hose, and now it's like a really good fresh air vent & heat system. I boxed my York in case I ever change my mind. I might be able to mend the condenser, it too is in the basement now.
I guess I just found myself in a pool of frustration.
I have done a York also and installed new bearings. They do tend to vibrate more than others and belt slap can be a problem on FE engines. I don't care for the look of Sandens on a Ford but they are sure smooth running. Someone mfg. a low mount that hides it under the alternator. The name escapes me now though.
