I have a 2010 ranger XLT sport 4x4 plow truck that has already allegedly had the transmission replaced on it. Since I got it in December it seems to miss shifts under medium to hard acceleration and seem to hit a false neutral. Hard to tell what gear it is missing. But it seems like if you accelerate at any speed it will miss the shift at anything more than half throttle really. I’m pretty sure that most of the time it seems to miss the gear directly after it kicks down. Transmission fluid seems like it’s at a normal level, maybe a little high. It seems to shift fine and smooth under normal acceleration. I don’t see any codes or lights besides the a TPMS light while using my OBD2 reader either. Is it possible that its a computer thing because it's just completely missing a gear and bouncing off the limiter? or do you think its possible that I need to drop a new tranny in / rebuild the current one?
I had recently experienced a loose or incorrect vacuum modulator valve that was shifting at the wrong times. The retaining clip was not holding the valve in place tight and just that little bit sticking out made things really operate poorly. The vacuum line got knocked off while I was changing the cat because it was so old that the flanges had rusted away. The auto shop I had then taken it to found the vacuum line but not the loose modulator valve. I put the old one back in tight and it shifts really nicely. It's a 94 Ranger 4.0
