Transission troubles
I have a 1996 F-150XLT. I am having trouble with the transmission shifting. It will not shift under acceleration. Once you let off the accelerator the transmission hard shifts into the next gear. The fluid level is fine and doesn't smell burned. Got any ideas?

I had a similar issue after I had my truck smogged. it ended up being that they did not put the SPOUT connector back. It is a long shot but give it a try. Mine only did it at WOT.

Check and see if the vacuum line fell off the modulator or came off on the engine end.

This transmission doesn't have a modulator valve. That was the first thing I checked. It is OBD II also.

Duh, guess it can't be the SPOUT connector then. There are several threads about this on here and other Ford truck forums. Do a Google search to find them. I am sure others will be along soon to offer more advice.

Well, I'm not a transmission guy at all, though I do change out quite a few and I make sure they need it first so I've picked up a little about them.
I should have known your '96 didn't have the c6 in it. Prob the 4r70w? I think the AODEs were from 91 to 95?
Anyway, do you have an engine light on?
Does the OD light blink?
Sometimes the accumulator spring breaks and causes shifting problems.
My scanner would tell me if the solenoids were doing what they are supposed to, but I don't know of anyway to tell if they are without the scanner.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, hopefully somebody who know transmissions will have some better suggestions.

No check engine light or OD light either. I am not sure which tranny is in this thing. Dealership wants too much to run diagnostics.
