Lower Radiator hose

Hello. I'm new to this generation of truck and bronco. I have a 1993 bronco with 5.8l auto. What is so special about the lower radiator hose? Is it a standard lower hose? I will be asking more question as they arise. I normally hang out in the 73-79 section.

Thanks for the help

Probably just the cooler is the special part?
The ones with the cooler are getting hard to find and are hell to replace
You are going to need to take a shower with hand cleaner

As a part of a towing package, some engines are equipped with oil cooler.

It is sandwiched between the filter & the engine block, uses a shorter filter & connects to the lower radiator hose.

Look it up on rock auto for pics, they seem to have plenty.

You can delete the cooler, use a regular lower hose & full size FL-1A filter if you choose.

Thanks for the answer. Do I need to remove the piece between the engine block and filter OR use the different lower hose?

Yes, you need to remove piece under the filter if you want to change out of the cooler and use the larger filter. I made a custom large allen wrench to do so by grinding a large bolt head to the proper hex size to fit. Then the FL1A filter will fit.
I would imagine you could get away without removing the cooler and just run the standard 5.0 radiator hose and retain the smaller 820s filter and maybe plug the oil cooler coolant ports to keep dirt out (or not?).

You will need the standard lower radiator hose listed for the 5.0 because the 5.8s mostly had oil coolers and had the special (and expensive) lower hose.

What is the problem? Is the hose leaking? Why do you want to delete to cooler?

Yeah, that's the reason for mentioning rock if he wants to just replace the hose.

You have to unscrew the nipple from the adaptor with an allen head. Don't know the size.

Then there is a tab on the side of the adaptor that must be bent out of the way to unscrew it from the block.

I believe there is a second nipple that must come out of the block (with a wrench) & then you screw the first one back into the block & then the full size filter.

Sorry it has been quite a while since I removed mine. I pulled it because the hoses were leaking & there is a history of the aluminum adaptor rotting & leaking water into the oil.

Plus I'd rather have the extra filter material over the marginal cooling benefits. But that's just me, since towing is not a major use.

Rep the hose or not. Just options.

si,e is 7/16... I did not have to bend a tab... just unscrew center, clean and screwed FL1A filter on an replaced lower hose with non- cooler hose... top off coolant
