Good morning all. I am considering on purchasing a 2013 f350 4x4 Dually kings ranch $35K. The truck was owned by a friend of friend who has passed away. and it only has 64K miles on it. It was a daily driver and he pulled a 5th wheel, but then parked it for the last few years and purchased another daily driver, he used this truck when he towed. I have only seen pictures and according to my friend its looks like new inside and out.
I know parking diesels is not a good thing and if I purchase all fluids and filters will be changed so I know its been done.
My questions are do these year models have any issues I should look for, are they good reliable trucks, are there things that should be upgraded, I'm concerned mostly with problems they may have. I have read about rad leaks. not sure about def. BTW any idea on the MPG? I will mostly be using it for towing, very little city, just curoius on real time MPG
Thanks for helpng me make a decision on this, it's a 750 mile turn around trip, don't want to make it for nothing!!
My 2013 F350 SRW was a great truck. No issues in the 9+ years I had it. Only got rid of it to buy an F450 for our new toy hauler.
As far as fuel economy, 18 mpg highway, 14 mpg mixed, and 9 mpg towing.
the only gotcha I can think of about being parked for a long time aside from battery needing to be recharged….from experience…diesel fuel will develope a tar like substance if the fuel sits for a while….it is heavier than diesel so it will settle to the bottom of the tank…I have found this tar like substance in stored diesel and generators that sit for a while. I use a product called desiel klean that breaks down the tar substance…don’t know if the diesel clean will harm pumps, sensors, injectors, etc. the diesel store products don’t seem to help prevent the tar.
Thnx. I use hot shot secrets in my diesels. I’ll bring some extreme with me. Great stuff to use every 6k miles. I’ll put that in for the first couple tanks in the drive back. I use their everyday diesel on each fill up.
The only issue with a truck that old is rust. The body will go long before the engine gives up if you live in the rust belt. My 2012 was a strong runner, but had holes in the bed and around every body mount was a ring of rust. Give it a good look underneath first.

Not if you get the truck oiled and even so, you have to be OCD like I am when it comes to the truck... But yeah, in the rust belt, if you do NOTHING, the body will rot out... But not on mine.

Same here, a new truck gets coated with Wool wax from now on. I have a 10 Year old Flex with very little rust on it that will get a rust removal job and a coating of WW so I can get another 10 year out of it. 176K miles and runs like a Thoroughbred. My F450 is WW back when it was new by the previous owner and it is still intact front to back.
