Sterling 10.25

Hello, I have an 86 F250 4.9 4x4 with the Sterling 10.25. I took the rear end apart and the passenger rear axle bearing was bad and ate into the axle pretty good. I was wanting to get a new or preferably used axle to replace it. The current axle measures 29”. Everything I find online measure over 30”. Is there something I am missing? I can’t find any info on a 29” acle shaft. Thanks, Dave

If the bearing ate into the axle, you must have a semi-float rear axle correct? Just make sure you are not looking at the heavier duty full float Sterling axles.

Have you looked at a used complete axle? I do not know where you live, but you could go to www.car-part.com and see if there are any axles near you for sale at a junkyard. You may be able to get a complete used axle for close to the price of a new axle shaft. Make sure you know the gear ratio if you look for a complete axle.
