On my 1997 (could not find the correct sub-forum-it only goes up to 1996) it started (no pun) not to start. After doing all the "normal" checks, ign switch, neutral switch, fuses, etc) I found the connector for the neutral switch needed "excersizing" then it started right up. I wanted to bypass this switch but there's about 6 contacts in this connector. Why on earth would one want so many wire, when the (incorrect) wiring diagram only shows two wires?
The processor and OBD2 is why the transmission range sensor has so many wires
The neutral start function and backup lamps are just two of the functions of several
The processor needs to know what gear you have selected et al. in order to shift the trans correctly for you
