i am dealing with this same truck. where did you plug the pigtail part into on the truck itself.

Trying to get OEM trailer brake controller installed on 2024 F-150 STX

Hello howzen,
I haven't made any installation attempts yet (haven't plugged anything in yet), as I am still holding out to have Ford dealership install an OEM unit. I haven't popped the coin holder out yet however I believe there is a plug on the back that would connect to the OEM dashboard switch. I understand many aftermarket trailer brake controllers provide or sell pigtails that adapt that factory plug to the aftermarket TBC unit so it will "plug and play". I'm trying not do go aftermarket unless there's no way to do an OEM unit.

thanks for the reply. i removed my coin holder and yes there is a small plug in on the back side of it and the 4 wire colors don't match up to the harness my ford dealer got for me which has a bigger rectangular plug that matches the plug in of the factory brake controller. they stated this part# 14a348 plugs into the dash in this area somewhere. my dealer is of no help.

Trying to get OEM trailer brake controller installed on 2024 F-150 STX

Hello howzen,
I'm sorry, but I have made assumptions that have been wrong since I bought this truck, including one that it would be easy to add the factory OEM "integrated trailer brake controller". I also assumed (but didn't verify) that there is a plug that attaches to a factory slider switch in the dash of trucks with the trailer brake controller, on the back of the coin holder. So apparently I'm not doing well with my assumptions.

Right now I'm hoping that someone who has been through this and solved the problem reads these threads and responds - (anyone out there with a 2024 2.7L STX without tow package that successfully installed an OEM integrated trailer brake controller?)

2024 F150 Trailer Brake Controller

Was there any resolution to successfully installing the trailer brake controller and module? I’m having a similar issue. I just purchased 2024 Ford F-150 5.0 V8 Fx4 Lariat, has receiver hitch, 7/4 pin connection, however did not come with trailer brake controller. Any help with parts needed to install successfully please?

see photo's from forum thread above from aug.. 24, 2024 from hambone1234. i purchased a Tekonsha plug in adapter(3036p) also like he did that plugged into my existing brake controller from my traded in gmc truck. the plug in adapter was specific for my truck. the plug in adapter had the 4 wire plug that plugged into my brake controller and a female plug that plugged into the trucks male plug in that was located under the dash above the left side of the foot brake. the trucks male plug was plugged into a plastic housing holder for that purpose. i think all brake controller units have the same 4 wires needed to hook up to the specific harness plug in you need which may be number 3035 or 3036.

Hello and Happy New Year 2024 F-150 5.0L Fx4 Lariat,
I'm assuming you also want a factory OEM Trailer Brake Controller as I do. I'm still unsuccessful and waiting to see if anyone has been successful, so I have no new info. You may be luckier since you have a 5.0L Lariat. If I were you I would check with your Ford Dealership and see if they can install one. If your truck has the "feature code "FDDAA" along with the feature codes "C2BAW" and "C1CAG", the factory kit including the controller switch and the module might work. It would work (on my truck) according to my dealership. This dealership indicates the module (part number) that would work would be RL3Z-19H332-AA if I had FDDAA.

Interestingly, the dealership here also provided an excerpt from a feature codes listing that shows FDDAA to be missing on my truck: it is listed as "LESS BRAKE CONTROL VALVE". However, parts man doesn't know if this is a mechanical or electrical part, a software patch, or whatever, and a can't find a physical part by this name. Needless to say I'm disappointed I can't find a Ford employee/contact that can explain in detail what the situation is and if I can resolve it! I hope you are successful! I will have to hold out for someone else with a dealership or other contacts that have solved this problem!

Do you or anyone else that had the dealership do the install have forscan available to post your as built format of the trm? I have a 2025 with a 2.7 with tow package(hitch and 7way and 4way connectors) with no brake controller. I ordered the dash piece but not sure if it need further software changes. the spreadsheet trm as built spreadsheet ends at 2023 so between that and the "RL3Z19H332AA" controller not being compatible with MY21-23 i'm not sure if they changed the trm as built as well. I can post mine tomorrow so others can compare and hopefully get it figured out and possibly have Livinitup add it to the spreadsheet.

Successfull Install on 2024 XLT F150

Hopefully this will help anyone who is confused as I was about the required TRM change in forscan.
I just Installed a TBC in my new 2024 f150 XLT, following should work on 2025 also.
part number RL3Z-19H332-AA, includes dash module and new TRM. Ford install guide can be found here.
1)*BE SURE TO BACKUP ORIGINAL TRM WITH FORSCAN BEFORE SWAPPING, THIS WILL BE NEEDED TO ACTIVATE NEW TRM.
2) Was able to remove coin holder by grabbing firmly with both thumbs down in coin holes and pulling up and down till it wiggles out. wire for switch is mounted to back of coin holder, plug in and push switch module into dash.
3)find TRM under dash and replace with new one. only 2 bolts and 2 plugs, push unit up to release plastic grommet holding in-place once bolts are removed..

Once new TRM and Dash switch are installed you can activate them in Forscan.
TRM change is manual but easy if you understand the spreadsheet.
4)load backup you took in step 1 for the new TRM
5)go down to Address 791-01-02 and make note of what the 6th character is. In my case it was a 6
in the chart 6 = BQC NOT_CONSIDERED • PSCMEC ENABLE • SYNCEC PRESENT • TBMC NOT_PRESENT
We want the same setting but with TBMC NOT_PRESENT changed to TBMC PRESENT
in the chart 7 = BQC NOT_CONSIDERED • PSCMEC ENABLE • SYNCEC PRESENT • TBMC PRESENT
So in my case I change the 6th digit from 6 to 7
you will want to chose the 6th digit based on the TRM backup you created in step 1.

Once digit is changed you can write the new TRM with the updated configuration. It will throw a error, just proceed and it will correct it on its own.
6) go into the IPC easy mode and search for trailer brake, there are 3 that need enabled. trailer break control module, trailer break controller gain setting and trailer break module.

Thank you jwhad for posting this detailed info! I have been holding out installing a trailer brake controller hoping someone would figure out how to successfully do so on a truck like mine. Does your XLT have a factory towing package? My STX does not have an optional towing package, although it has the factory hitch and connectors. My STX has the 2.7L engine. The dealer has told me they didn't know how to install an OEM trailer brake controller, last I checked, which was several months ago. They indicate to me that it is because I don't have an optional towing package, with some of the feature coding that goes with it. I'm hoping they are just missing some info that would help them be successful, and maybe you have discovered it.

Also - to mp138: Thanks for also posting info on this! Does your truck have an optional tow package as listed on window sticker, or does it (like mine) have the hitch and connectors but no listed optional tow package?

Mandj I'm not sure what the window sticker said because it's a fleet truck. However It sounds like we had the same spec in terms of having receiver attached to the frame (not bumper ball) and connectors at the back of the truck from the factory.) I didn't even need any hand tools as you can easily slide the module off the original bracket and popping the coin tray out is pretty easy as well.

Thanks much mp138! I purchased my 2024 as a very new but used vehicle that was also a fleet truck in October of last year and have held out since then on the trailer brake controller hoping that other F150 owners might find solutions to the problem: not being able to install a factory trailer brake controller, (at least according to my dealership). This is encouraging (although your truck is a 2025, which might make a difference). I did get my window sticker, and although the truck has the factory hitch receiver, the 4 and 7-pin connectors, and some sort of "smart" trailer electronics, it does not have any window sticker listed tow package optional equipment. I went to the dealership yesterday presenting your discussions, and they are ordering the module and switch, and will make an attempt to install them. This will take a month or so, based upon ordering backlog.

A guy I work with just had a brake controller put in his truck by a local dealership. Cost him $400 . His truck has the 2.7 and is a stx. Dont know any other details other than I gave him a ride to the dealership. It did take the dealership over 2 weeks to get the parts.

I am going to have a brake controller put in my truck . My truck is a xl 24 with the 5.0. The brake controller was a standalone option for my truck. But for some reason, whoever ordered the truck didn’t add it. Seems to any truck that can tow more than 4,000lbs should come with a brake controller as standard equipment.

Id do it myself, but seeing I need someone to program the truck, I may as well have the dealership do it all.
