Hi all. My truck has recently seemed to be really slow until warmed up. Once warmed up it’s real zippy. I know that this is somewhat normal on these trucks but it seems like this is too excessive. It’s a 7.3 zf5 with 250k on it and it’s never really been this bad before. I have an international thermostat to put in it so I think I’m going to do that this weekend but I wanted to get other suggestions before I dive into it. Truck has a pacbrake on it that replaces the Ebpv and I’m thinking that might be something to do with it. Thanks y’all
I do not know anything about how the pacbrake works but I would wire the EBPV open and see what happens. The thermostat will not solve this. If wiring it open fixes the problem you will know for sure where to look for the permanent fix.
When was the last time you did an oil change? Old oil thickens up and causes worn out injectors to not fire until warm due to the armature being to tight due to wear.
Signs of lazy injectors, might be time for new/reman injectors, but check that Packbrake and see if it's not closing when cold.
300k on mine
once it starts up on GPs only, I let it run for 20-30 seconds, one minute after driving it down the road, it runs well as the engine is putting out heat even when 30 out.
my EBPV closes on its own even with wires removed!!
mine is wired open for past few years and no more issues with lack of power in the morning
