Just before I pulled into my development, going about 30ish, I looked down at the needle speedo and it was reading 60 while the digital speedo was reading 30. Pulled into.driveway and took this picture to make sure I wasn't cracking up, at least in this particular instance. WTH? As you can see, only 597 miles on it.
When you turn the truck off does it go back to zero or stay at 30mph? If it’s stuck at 30mph then pull the fuse for the instrument cluster, wait a few seconds and reinstall the fuse, this will cause the cluster to re-zero the gauges. If this fixes it and it happens again then the cluster will have to be replaced as the stepper motor that drives the gauge has a defect that is making it loose steps and get a large offset that you have currently.
Had similar happen to my old '06 truck. Obviously it didn't have the digital display, but the speedo did the same thing a few times. Always after being in cold wet weather. Turning truck off/on did not correct it, but it did correct itself a little at a time over the next 10 or 20 off/on cycles. Repairing the cluster is what finally fixed it.
So is your odometer registering half the mils you drive? Better keep track just in case you want to sell one day you'll want to report accurate mileage.

Not sure if you're joking, but either way, it doesn't work that way. It's just the needle that gets stuck, or more likely the stepper motor sticking. The miles are all digitally calculated from the VSS.

Yeah, I'll be sure to do that in about 6 years if I run true to form and I'll try to remember the extra 1/2 mile since i noticed it.
Started the truck this morning to move the trailer and the needle is back on zero, never got a chance to pull the fuse. Will have to keep an eye on it.
Fast forward almost a year and the problem came back... One morning I went out and started the truck, digital speedo reading zero, needle was pegged off the bottom of the scale. Over the next couple of weeks, at various times the needle would start at the normal 0 spot on first start but I would notice it going up but never quite coming back down to where it started. Finally took it in to the dealer, they said they had never seen that happen before. Turned out to be a bad cluster. They had to order a new cluster from Ford, then have the new one programmed to the correct mileage. Picked it back up yesterday, so far so good. Taking the trailer from NJ to TN next week, we'll see if that fixes it.
