Does anyone know what this red plug went to ? Notice those 2 fuseable links that have been twisted together for some reason?? Anyone know what those are and where I might find the rest of the wire for the shortened one?

your old truck may not be as old as you think it is. That's the very early version of the odb detection system. Very handy system, you can get a diagnostic computer for it still at autozone today for about $30. I just found that out recently on my bullnose as well, it works wonders
As for the fuse link going to need a little better picture of where the other ends go to.
Wonder if 1 blew and they just put the other in like that to get going?
What electrical dose not work on the truck?

Not sure what works and what doesn't. When I got the truck it didn't have a starter, starter solenoid, and all the wiring is chopped and hacked.
I'm not even sure what engine it came with originally, right now it has a 300/6 in it. I'm in the process of eliminating everything except 12v to run the HEI and whatever I need hooked up from the alternator.
If that red plug is for a OBD I'll just rip all that out too. This truck could never be put back the way it was so I'm going to try to make it easy on myself to get it going again.

I don't know if I have replied to you before, but when you get the truck running good with the new distributor and new carb, go in the cab and take the computer out. It's over the transmission hump behind the dash. Unplug the big wiring connector and fish it through the firewall. Then gently tug on it, undoing anything that was connected to the computer. That plug you are wondering about will go with this wiring you are tugging on and pulling out.
