Went to my local FoMoCo parts counter yesterday with a broken clip, hoping they'd reach underneath the counter and toss me a few from a big box they keep for just such occasions. Instead I was told he couldn't help without a part number and I should go to the local discount parts store and hunt for a generic replacement. I did locate a part number at home and they are over $3 a pair, so unintentionally the guy might be doing me a favor.
I see on Amazon there are dozens of kits with assorted automotive plastic fasteners/clips/pins common to several makes but I hesitate to order blindly and find its all junk. Can anyone recommend packaged assortment that is good quality, Amazon or elsewhere?
FWIW, this was the offending part, Grille Assembly Pin W71890-S300, $3.77 CAD pkg. of 2
I also need the "christmas tree" zip-tie fastener that secures the mass airflow sensor's harness onto the airbox intake tube. Those zip-tie fasteners seem to be harder to find included in the all-purpose kits I looked at on Amazon.
I've dealt with some parts guys that are nearly useless too. When the customer can locate a part number but the person who's job it is to do so can't, there's a problem.
What is that part# supposed to be for? I get no results when searching using that part number. Ford has several of that style fastener with different part#'s. I just recently made the mistake of ordering a 4 pack of a clip (W714040-S300) that looks the same as those, different part#, and I then discovered that the one I need is a different part# (W718037-S300). Might have wasted $7.
Try Ford's body shop. I need a couple of clips for my truck and the parts manager sent me to the body shop. They had a wall of bins with every fastner know to man. Gave me what I needed and sent me on my way.
