Well, they make plastic scraping tools that do work well. I'm betting that the adhesive tape is made by 3M..... probably best to call them for recommendations on what specific adhesive residue remover to use... but don't count on alot of help from them.... A few years ago when I needed to remove ClearBra from the vehicle it took months to force an answer out them that "They don't know how to remove the glue". Their tests showed that any product they applied removed the paint...so they had no recommendations.I tried 3M adhesive remover, mineral spirits, etc., acetone was the only thing that even slightly dissolved it but was not really effective but that is really tuff on paint and plastic..... ultimately I used a product called "Rapid Remover" which is used in the vinyl wrap sign industry.... but following the directions didn't work....I applied it to a sponge, allowing it to soak directly on the residue for about 3-5 minutes.... then it came off clean using the plastic non-marring scrapers/putty knifes.
I'll see if I can find some of that "Rapid Remover". I used a plastic scraper and some spray on Goo-B-Gone. It got the spongy foam off, but there's still this really thin layer of clear adhesive that will not come off. I went ahead and installed my new rain guards, which are in channel, after cleaning up as much as I could. The truck isn't show piece and as long as it's not horribly prevalent, I'm good with where it's at.
