I was asked to bring mashed "turnips" to our Thanksgiving dinner. The concept seems easy enough, you just boil them like potatoes and then mash them. I picked up the turnips the other day and noticed they were covered with what seems to be "wax". My question is: How do I remove the wax so I can cook the turnips? Do you simply try to peel it away with the skin or is there a better way?
You can get a veggie wash from a health store, or use lemon juice and scrub them.. Turnips are great, I love them and do not like the poor man's version, the potato.

That's how you do it. Every year for Thanksgiving my sister-in-law prepares them, and it's the highlight of the dinner for me. I imagine they're pretty darn good for you, too.
No,Tim, Turnips mashed and served with a good meal taste kind of different - there is nothing that tastes like it.. It is really delicious and I enjoy them just like 1956markll

I quite like melting some butter over them. That makes them really delicious. I would suggest you run out to the store, and get some, cook 'em, mash 'em, and eat 'em.. you will not be sorry.
