Hello, I have an urgent problem, I have an 89 f-150 with a 351w. the small coolant hose going to what I think is the intake manifold (where the TPS is) is leaking quite a bit. what size is that hose? can I get it at AutoZone or a similar store? thanks in advance. also, what coolant do I need to add to replace the coolant lost?
Best practice unless you live in the frozen north is to bypass the coolant running to the TB as the TB can fail and leak. My son's truck did this in Lubbock at school but I was there moving him in. I pulled the hose off and took it to an auto parts store and they matched one for me. You can use any anti-freeze you want. My advise is stay away from the 50/50 mix stuff as you are paying for half of it to be water.
There are 2 of those hoses on the TB, the quick fix is to disconnect both and loop them together with a barbed pipe coupler or plug them separately. When the hard line attached to the TB begins to leak it's usually because the line is corroded right through and it may just break off when you touch it. I don't believe those fittings can be purchased separately you have to replace the whole throttlebody, but as mentioned unless you're in a northern climate there are no downsides to disconnecting the water lines.
