Well Tom, we finally found the problem. Took it today to get the wireing harnesss inside of the tranny replaced. They showed it to me and it is mearly an odd shaped piece of plastic with a couple of resisters on it and numerous contact points that clip in on the bottom or side of the vavle body. So they put it on. Paid for it, which thank goodness they only charged me fro the part, $25.00! I was very pleased with that considering I watched them drain the oil and drop the pan to do this! Drove off and didn't make first red light till it done it again!!! same problem, so u-turn the ole ford and back i go. They put the tester on it again and same code, so up on the rack it goes. they say it has to be a faulty main wiring harness. So we go to looking and sure enough we find it!!! This wiring harness goes from the motor/ computer to the tranny and is routed on the back side of the motor and mounted to the fire wall. Guess what Ford used to mount this all important wiring harness with???? Yep!! none other than our great ole plastic snap in clips. So they gave way and the wiring harness fell on the back of hte motor, got hot, melted and then started to short out! So all of this work due to a clip failing and over a period of time finally getting bad enough to give me constant problems. I guess when all of the this started i must have moved the wire some when i was replaceing the first o2 sensor, since the problem went away for a while after that. But let everyone know : GET UNDER YOUR TRUCK, ON TOP OF THE MOTOR AND LOCATE IT!!!! then find you a way to secure it up away from the motor. Be it bubble gum, paper clips, rubber bands, or bread twist ties!!! JUST DO IT!!! save your self $450.00 Ford prices to replace this item!!! the harnesss is 125.00 the rest is labor! so it must be a real bear to get at and weave through were all it needs to be... I thank each and all of you for all of your help on this matter. Willkeep you all posted as other things occur to it. Thanks, Todd
If you're talking about the same harness I'm thinking about, mine is held on by a 10mm bolt, so I guess I'm good to go. Glad to hear you made it out alive!
Busa.. This harness ties into a block on the pass. side of the engine compartment with a couple of others, I will try to get some digital pics of it here in the next few days and post them to show everyone... I crawled under today and looked at where all it went. It ties into the tranny and some other places, there are at least two big ones that go back behind the motor and it is very easy to get the two mixed up when you are laying under it and looking for them.... just make sure that all of yours are tied up I guess is the best advice i can give everyone.... Also learned to day where the ABS sensor is and how to replace it.
