Well that is the bad part Tom.... this one code appears to cover several of the same sensors in the tranny, so they start with the most common one and then go from there. The wiring harness inside of the tranny is also covered by this code so it could be it... fun huh??? LOL.. but i'm about tired of laughing!!!

Are the sensors inside or outside the tranny? In other words, do you have to remove the tranny to get to the sensors??

From the way I understand it, they are inside of the tranny. One wireing harness is outside, but the valve and sensors are all inside and so is the other wiring harness, and this is the one that Ford says they replace the most of due to cracking and then fluid getting in it and shorting it out, hence the incomplete test mode on the OBD11 code reader. They did not tell me how much this sensor or harness cost, but I wonder if I would not be ahead by having them replace both this time and save the time and hassle of it being one i didn't replace!!

From my experience, the highest dollar item on a transmission repair bill is typically labor costs. You will be money ahead to have them replace any suspect parts while they already have the transmission out and disassembled. Just to throw a cost out there, a complete rebuild will run anywhere from $1,800 to $2,100 depending more on make/model of the vehicle than what is actually wrong. Labor is typically half of the total cost.

I agree with Sigma. Since they have it all apart anyway, you might as well have the tranny totally reconditioned. Perhaps even a new torque converter while they're at it. Torque converters are not expensive. You can pick a stock aftermarket one up for under 200 bucks.

Oh yeah, great advice. Just have someone pick the side of the truck up, snap off the rubber bands holding it in place, grab it with both hands and just toss it up on your shoulder. It's really easy. I usually pull mine every night before I go to bed and set it in my kitchen, just so nobody steels it or anything. Then on my way out to work in the morning, with my briefcase and coffee, I toss it up on my shoulder and slap it back in again, attach the elastic bands (you can get these from Office Depot if you break one) and I'm off.

Ah, and if I have an extra 3 or 4 minutes at night, I'll pull my engine out while holding my tranny on my shoulder, toss the engine up onto the other shoulder and set both of them next to my shower in the bathroom, this way I can tinker with them while i'm shaving in the morning. It really handy and a great feature Ford developed when they came out with their ultra light engines and transmissions which are easy to install and disassemble. My engine is secured by paper clips. Very ingenious.

Paper clips? Mine is held together by zip-ties baby! It just sux that you have to replace them every time you pull motor/tranny.

I actually like putting mine in the bedroom...no comment.

I tried zip ties, but then you have to carry a knife around with you to cut them. Actually, someone told me to try chewing gum so I might try that instead.

The bedroom would be a great place, but i'm 6'2" and between me and my G/F, there is not enough room on the bed. Besides, the engine would probably hog all the covers !!!

I was just busting on you Alfred. But still, not everyone is capable of pulling tranny's. It is NOT an easy project, especially if you don't have the right tools and so forth. Not to mention it weighs over 300 pounds. If I needed tranny work, even I wouldn't pull the tranny myself. Not that I couldn't do it, it's just that I don't have the right facility to perform that type of function.

If I can find someone to bring the tranny to the shop for me it is no problem.....but pulling the tranny in the 02 means I have no other truck to drive as both the 91 and 78 are down right now with other probs I got to pull the C6 out the 78 when it is in my possesion. and yank the motor in the 91 now that it is toast.

Depending what you willing to settle for, you can get one pretty cheap from Cycle trader online. I know you want a Harley, but maybe just for now you can get an old Triumph or something for cheap. Riding is fun no matter what your on, especially when the weather is nice. On a beautiful warm sunny day, there's no better feeling than being out on the road early in the morning before traffic picks up. We just did a nice trip down to key west and back in the same day. 6 hours down, had lunch at Margaritaville, and 6 hours back. It was a beautiful day and there were about 6 of us.
