BG Fuel System Service

My independent garage suggests I let them do a BG Fuel System Service on my 2017 with a 6.2 at a cost of $302.00. It has 135,000 miles on it. I am not having any problems. My first reaction was "snake oil", but doing a little googling, some mechanics seem to think it might have merit. I thought I would put it out here for comments if any care to contribute. Do I, or don't I? ...and Why or Why not?

Thanks,
BZ

I wouldn’t. That’s a lot of money!
Just use top tier fuel.

BG fuel system works, I used to use it for injectors hanging on JD sprayers. It is approved by JD for warranty and it cleaned up the issues. I was one of the pilot mechanic for JD with the Chevron cleaner and BG cleaner. Both worked well.

Now that being said, if you were having issues I'd say go ahead and give it a try. I'd suggest buying a couple of quarts of the BG245 if you are not having issues, You'll notice a difference after the first tank still do the second quart then a quart once a year after that unless you get some bad fuel. I did this treatment on my 6.0 for several years and will be doing the same on my 6.7.

Is that the BG system pressure flush of the injectors?
I'm guessing it is for that price, if not then it is a definite rip-off.
But, unless you are having injector fouling issues, which it sounds like yours are fine, then there is no sense in spending the money.
Using good gas in your truck keeps the injectors very clean, that's really all you should need.

This is what I was finding as I searched various sources. Some called the treatment totally unnecessary if you were not having issues, others thought it was worth the money, even at the quoted price.
Isn't BG245 a diesel treatment?

From the description the shop gave me, it looks like they spray something into the throttle body intake with the engine running. It uses "BG Air Intake System & Valve Cleaner, or BG Air Intake System Cleaner". "It may be necessary to unplug the MAF sensor for runability." There are other actions that may need to be taken if the vehicle will not run. I don't know enough to know, but does this have any effect on the cats? I've replaced them once already.
I do try to get Top Tier gas most of the time. With camping, it's not always possible.

Anyway, thanks for responding. I think I will leave it alone.

That's the carbon cleaning system, supposed to clean carbon deposits off the back side of the intake valves and intake ports.
But, you are on the right track with passing on this, really sounds like you have no need for it.

Yes it is a pour in diesel treatment. It'll clean the injectors and minor injector deposits. Right around $50 a quart. If it doesn't run rough or have a slight miss, it'll work and keep everything cleaned up.

If it runs rough or slight miss you'll need to higher dollar system flush. Which is a standalone system, they would change fuel filters disconnect the tank and return and run the engine on the cleaner. When finished which takes, 20 to 30 minutes run time, they would hook the tank and return back up and dump a qt of 245 into your tank.
