Help ID 9 inch axle
Hey all, I joined because maybe you experts could help me out identifying the year / model of my Ford 9" that was shoved in my Frankenstein 1963 Toyota Landcruiser, since the identification tag is missing. It was a welded diff and I want an open diff for street driving, but can't find the right parts because I can't identify it. I already bought one wrong open carrier from ebay.
The ring says this:1 SA-D27W 4210 B 937, which could be 'B' for 4.2, 10", February '93...but I don't think that's right since it's a 9" and was out of production by the mid-80?
The outside of the diff says WAR B 4025 , and the INSIDE says 96E and 4224.
Any help would be appreciated,

hard to tell truly what you have with all the rubgoldberging on the rear, main case wise most 9.0's are the same, the diffs themselves defer a lot , by gear ratio axle 28/31/35 spline count .
real world not knowing just what you have you might be better off buying a assembled center section with what you want in it along with a custom housing that bolts in safer than how i see it secured on the left with that u bolt

That's an aftermarket spool not anything that's been modified. Get a spline count on the axles that are in it and then find the differential of your choice to fit that number of splines. This could be an open, a Detroit locker, a torsen, you name it. There are lots of options. As far as I know production 9 inch differentials all used the same size where the carrier bearing goes onto the differential but there are variations in the carrier bearings themselves mostly due to differences in the housings bore diameters. Careful work with the press and you might be able to just remove the carrier bearings from your spool and put them onto a different differential. A WAR case is a very old 9 inch case that looks sort of like a nodular iron but isn't. Still should be fine for your application.
