I have a chassis (no door tags) with a rear axle that has the following tag (as best I can make out):
WDC-CR4 2BB
25-9-134A (maybe there is another number in front of the 25, I can't tell)
The chassis is from a 66 short bed...
Looks like an 8 or 9", since I'm not sure you can tell I'm no expert.
Thanks for any help, I am especially interested in the gear ratio.
WDC-CR4 = Ford & Mercury passenger car, '69-'71. 3.25 ratio, 9 inch ring gear, 28 spline axles, non-limited slip. (8s were never installed in F-series)
2BB would be 1972, and B is the second month (Feb) and B the second day, so 2/2/72. This conflicts with the '69-'71 info, but that's not unusual for internet source stuff, or even original FoMoCo stuff to be "off" a little.
25 is part of 3 25, with the 3 being covered by the bolt.
The space between 3 and 25 would have an "L" if it was limited slip.
134 might be the plant code. No decoder ring on that one.
That center section was swapped in at some point. Not uncommon as 9ers were like sand at the beach in those days. Since we don't know the OEM ratio, all we can do is guess.
