There is much discussion about iPhones, Sync, Apps, Apple CarPlay that's been posted in the 2023+ ForScan thread. @andrew8406 had a great idea of instead of cluttering up that thread, to start one to discuss the title issues/fixes/etc...
So here we are.
Post your questions/answers here. I'm sure it will be a great resource for members looking to resolve issues or have questions.
Good topic. Although all I've ever owned is Apple stuff I'm a relatively new user of CarPlay. I'm finding that the wireless CarPlay in my 2023 pretty much connects when it feels like it. Sometimes almost right away it connects. Other times not at all.
Sometimes a soft reset fixes it. Sometimes not. Same with turning CarPlay off and then back on in the iPhone. Pisses me off sometimes. When I get into my 2009 Explorer with a $229 BOSS stereo from Crutchfield the wireless CarPlay connects every time.

Wireless carplay uses the wifi protocol, so if you are connected to any other wifi device wireless carplay will not work until disconnected from the other. This is also why you cannot do wireless carplay and have your iphone connected to wifi at the same time. This might not be the cause of your issue, but its 100% general information that everyone needs to know because it'll get asked a bunch.

Hmmm... interesting.
I'm gonna have to play with this later. Being a Apple/Mac/iPhone "Fan Boy" I'm now curious about any limitations for my own info. I'll post if I come across any craziness. @Poncho450 Mine pretty much connects flawlessly every time, and more or less didn't have any issues either with my 2022 F150 with 12" scree and Sync 4.

Good information. To the best of my knowledge the only wifi device in the truck is the iPhone. My dash camera does not go wifi unless I get into it's settings and manually turn it on for file transfer.
Maybe this is the place to ask this question. Siri, has stopped talking to me. I’ve deleted Siri off the phone and reinstalled it, and it will work for one trip, giving voice directions to go along with the map. Then the next trip the map works but no voice directions.
I can say, “hey Siri, I need directions to XYZ”, and she will respond with, “Getting directions to XYZ” The map works, but no voice directions. My wife always asks, “What did you say to her, that she’s not talking to you?”
The phone is connected to the truck, and using Apple maps to navigate but no voice, except the one time after I uninstalled and reinstalled Siri. It’s a great system when it’s working….
This could be the voice prompt volume, or you might have it turned off in the maps app. Set a destination. Then, touch on the map and there’s a button off to the right that is probably set to alerts only or something similar. Change that to all alerts. If I go outside I’ll try to get some screenshots.
Something else you can try… If you can hear Siri speak to confirm stuff, it might not be this, but that volume is separate from other volumes. Get her to speak, then quickly adjust the volume ****. That will adjust the voice prompt volume. To do this, turn on the voice prompts, and she should reiterate what the next step is. While she’s talking, even if you can’t hear her, turn the volume up. It only works while she’s talking.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I do hear her say "Getting directions to..." but then she's done talking to me....

Interesting concept but here me out - my iphone is connected to the wifi at my house and has NO ISSUE connecting to my Ram and using wireless CarPlay at the same time. Same for my MIL's on their '23 F250. My FIL's, however, connects when it wants to...or doesn't. And occasionally Siri has no volume for him.

FIL has the same issue on his truck - his older iPhone (I think it's an X?) connects when it wants to unless he plugs it in. My MIL's iPhone (a 12 I believe), on the other hand, connects to the same truck with no issues.
From time to time his Siri functions (you can see her little pop up glowing ball thing) but has no volume, even if you adjust the volume when she's supposed to be speaking. It isn't all the time though.

This could be due to wifi bands being used. For example, if the truck is using 5ghz (I haven't looked yet) and your home wifi is as well... it may be able to only use one at a time. Perhaps the Ram uses 5 and the home is 2.4? Or vise versa. And the Ford could be using the same one as the house.
This is all just a guess at this point, but I may be able to investigate further this weekend. I can turn some band steering on in my home network to see if I can make it work with both at the same time. Honestly, I have the in vehicle hotspot that would sometimes be nice to use at the same time as CarPlay, but I haven't looked into getting that to work yet, but could be a similar issue. My kids use it with their iPads, but in areas where my phone has limited signal, I could see it being useful.
@andrew8406
I will say it again, this is great idea you had splitting this from the ForScan thread! Already a lot of traffic and questions/answers being generated!
This will turn into a valuable resource to find info.

Mine is a 13 with the latest iOS. I just got home from a trip to Lowe's and the car wash. One time it connected, another it did not. Soft reset, connected again. Next go round, nothing. Very frustrating.
I double checked my Rove dash cam. Wifi is turned off at all times unless I go in and turn it on myself. There should be no other wireless devices in the truck.
I was interested in finding out as some stated CarPlay will work connected to a different WiFi source, others said no.
So at least on my 2024 Lariat with the Ultimate and BAP packages, it will not.
Here are a series of pics I took in somewhat a chronological order to show before, and after CarPlay connected. First one shows the SYNC software version.
If nothing else comes of this, maybe it will help someone who is researching this.
SYNC Version Info Phone list CarPlay active iPhone using cellular data Trying to connect to Home WiFi will disconnect CarPlay CarPlay active, phone list in side menu screen Edited bottom menu to add shortcut to phone list
I have had issues since day 1 with our 2023. Calling is about worthless as I constantly have to select my phone and then CarPlay again in the middle of calls. It has static at times and sometimes just drops CarPlay. Also, when putting into reverse, sometimes it will have a sound/static and then back to normal when on a call. Other times I have to do the same thing mentioned with selecting phone them CarPlay. iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 17.4.1. Sync hasn’t updated since December.
I do feel this issue is a combination of Apple updates being constant and Ford/Sync updates may behind. My buddy with his 2024 said he hasn’t had any issues to this point, but he is a keyed Sync rev number(same as post above).
