I hate the switchblade style of these keys. They are weak and poorly made and come apart often. They are also annoying. Has anybody ever successfully programmed a traditional key fob for one of these trucks? Can you share details?

What year truck?
My 2017 had the switchblade style and never had an issue. Neither did the one the DW carried.
I even had a tick, where I'd fumble with it in my pocket while roaming the shopping mall or walking the state parks and campgrounds.
I must have opened/closed mine a million times while in my pocket and it never failed.
My 2024 has a push button release and the metal key comes completely out the bottom of the fob.
There’s a big thread on traditional style keys on here somewhere. I’m on my phone now or I’d search it for ya. But yes, a traditional fixed blade key can be programmed to work in place of the factory switchblade.
Interesting. Like ATC said, there's an old thread about this. Very common issue for the key portion of the switchblade fob to get loose and then fall apart completely. I think I found the thread. Guys were trying to program solid keys that don't have moving parts and some were successful while others were not. Hmm....
I broke two of the switch blades after 5 years and probably 10 to 15 starts per day or more. They twisted off right at the base with just enough sticking out of the ignition I could grab it with my leatherman and start it.
And no it does not work to remote start it then just turn the ignition switch to on. It thinks someone is stealing the truck.😂 it’s a little embarrassing sitting in Texas Roadhouse with the horn and lights flashing trying to use your pliers in the ignition with one hand and hold the fob around the steering column with the other.
