How can I tell if my Excursion has air-suspension? I do not see any large coil springs enveloping my shocks, but I never hear any compressor noise nor experience any rise-nor-fall when the vehicle is started nor shutdown. I was told that I have air suspension, however, by an A&A Autoparts dealer when he installed my Borla exhaust. They said there is a disable switch near the fuel-pump reset behind the front passenger kick panel, but I do not see the air suspension disable switch. I need to put the vehicle on a lift and wish to definitively know if I have air suspension and, if so, how to disable it.
Sincere Thanks.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Nov-01 AT 03:04 PM (EST)]If your Excursion is a 2000 or 2001 it does not have an air suspension ride. As for 2002 and up I'm guessing that there is still no air suspension option available. It is very easy to identify if your suspension is air or not. So far all 4x4 Super Duty suspensions (Excursion are built on the SD chassis) use leaf springs in the front and the rear which is why you do not see coil springs. Although the two wheel drive Excursion front suspension does use coil springs but it's not air adjustable.
I didn't read all of your note before I answered. The Navigator and some Mountaineers have air suspension systems but they are not coil over designs like air shocks. They are small versions of the very large tractor trailer air suspensions.
I disagree. I think when I was shopping some of the 2000's had a load leveler suspension. Rear only I assume. I've slept since then and I know that mine does not have it, but I believe some did.
Excursions do not have air suspension as a factory or dealer installed option. If an Excursion does air suspension (load leveling), it has been installed as an aftermarket product. I currently own a 2000 X and just ordered an 2002 X yesterday, air suspension is not an option.

The Expedition has optional load leveling, not the Excursion. I have both trucks.
pocono steve, I'd have someone else look at your Borla install. If the installer couldn't recognize an air suspension, or more importantly, the lack of one, I'd question his ability to properly install an exhaust system!
