I went to use my fancy code reader on Freeda to chase down a Check Engine light today. Plugged in the larger of the two connectors but couldn't find the single connector. I looked everywhere in that area (driver's fender between the brake booster and headlight) but couldn't find anything. Any words of wisdom on where it may be hiding?
Assuming the worst and it doesn't exist, how do I read codes?
Also (and humble apologies if this has been covered before, but my search-fu isn't strong), what is this connector? Same area as the EEC connector; it's capped off just hanging out by itself.
Good to know -thanks! I don't have the large plastic rectangle so everything is kinda laying there. Is there anything I can/should do with the RABS test - like something I can plug it into or jumper? Or just leave it alone?
Still perplexed about the missing single EEC connector. The only cut wires in the area are speaker wires, and I'm guessing Ford did't run the EEC through those.
Don't worry about the RABS, that's the antilock that kinda sorta does something.
The plastic thing I have just holds the connectors in place, it's marked with "trailer tow" "fuel pump" etc etc.
I believe the little gray plug is the STI (self test input) so you're gonna need that. Mine runs in that black taped bundle of cables (sits in the same holder of "EEC TEST") see if you can find any little loose wires, or if yours is still taped, it should be in there.
Heres photo Yellow with black stripe seems to be the one you're looking for
Your gray plug mention triggered something in my small brain so I just checked again. My EEC cover is holding the little gray plug body...I assumed it was part of the cover but I pried it out. HOWEVER, zero wires to it; it's just a shell.
So I've got that going for me. Which is nice.
I don't see any dangling wires or anything - any idea what color its wire is supposed to be?
Following up on this. I cut open the harness for the EEC, all the way back to the large bundle under the airbox. I've looked and looked and no yellow wire with black stripe. Nuttin'. Nada. Zip. Zilch. *sad trombone*
Which side of the harness does that wire come from? The front (airbox) side, or the firewall side?
Thanks for that info. I went over it again and the more I get into this, I'm not entirely convinced that someone cut the wire. If they did so, it was WAAAAAAAAY down in the harness. The easy solution would have been just to cut it and jettison that single STI piece or leave two cut ends hanging there. I can't find a cut end anywhere.
WIth your White/Red Stripe color scheme in mind, lookie what I found:
This White/Red Stripe wire is plugged into the EEC connector in the (looking at the connector) top left position of the group of four terminals. My code reader doesn't have a spade for that terminal.
Is it possible that someone unplugged that wire from the STI and plugged it into the main EEC connector? Freeda's (door jamb) build date is 8/89, so is this some type of 89-->90 model year cross-over thing?
Either way: Would it harm anything if I moved that terminal to the STI and tried to read codes thusly? I'd rather not kill my girl, so if this is a bad idea please let me know.
Well, I would not move that white with red wire (unless there 4 wires in that connector) and the other colors are there in the connector
You have a 89 right?
You need to find a 1989 schematic, then you can verify the right wire color and maybe then find the wire
That 1990 with the white with red, used to be white with purple IIRR and I have never seen one labeled white with red
Either way, they might have switched wire colors several times over the years
