I looked at several sites on the internet.. Found a couple dozen commentns about the "STRETCH BELT" jumping off the front of the pulley, or breaking due to age and flying off.... MY PROBLEM is the belt jumped off the BACK and hit the compressor wires.
Son has a Taurus and the Stretch Belt runs the steering pump.. Constant low load... Trucks have the belt run the AC compressor.. Cuts in and out with shock load... Im thinking that causes belt stretch / jumping..

That is entirely possible. When the belt goes, there's no telling which direction it'll fly with the kinetic energy stored. In this case the broken part is the belt itself (knock on wood).
