Clock Spring Question
I have a 96 F350 7.3 Auto 4x4 as well as a 96 Explorer Limited Auto 4x4. Actuator rod broke on the F350 so I ordered both parts (tilt wheel) and plan on pulling the steering column in the next few days. one of the current issues I never fixed is the previous owner cut up the yellow clock spring wiring (Why? I don't know). The Explorer is fairly new to me and I have been doing a lot of work to make it whole again and my daily driver. I am replacing the steering column with a good wrecking yard find (97 Explorer Limited). It is complete even with steering wheel but wrong color. Looks like a simple direct swap. Once swapped I'll swap the steering wheels.
Steering columns between the F350 and Explorer look identical to me. from the exterior. What I am wondering is if the clock springs are the same? If so, I will take the clock spring off the old Explorer column and put it on the F350 column when I have it out and apart fixing the ignition actuator rod.
Any info would be greatly accepted.
i once put a crown vic steering column in a 97 pickup because that was all they had. only had to change two pins on ignition wiring and all was good.
