My rig was in a good shop for other reasons; among the inspection items was excessive play in the steering box. I did RSK a few years ago and was please with the improvements, so it's not bad, but maybe could get a lot better. Anyhow...
What is the preferred replacement steering gearbox? Is Redhead worth the extra money? Are parts store (ie NAPA) boxes likely to be low-play out out of the box and durable? Thoughts and opinions welcome.
I think both are pretty comparable. Both are leaps better then a stock box from reviews amd info ive seen.
Even my rig is still running a stock box still though. But when it goes, I'll he picking up one of these. Unless Clay makes a billet steering box, then I'll get that one 🤔
Just ordered Blue Top for my 95. Delivering early this coming week. Plan to install next weekend along with new moog cc844s springs. I will let you know how the blue top goes.
Just purchased several parts like upgraded HPOP lines, dieselsite’s coolant filtration and tranny return line filter. Every spring I get something new to replace something stock as a maintenance plan or upgraded stock. Had the truck about 5 years so eventually all the supporting mods and needed maintenance items will be completed then onto new stage 1s and efuel.

Its taking me so long to get everything fixed it will be time to start over when I do get things "done"

I feel the same too. But if the parts I put in last as long as the stock ones…. Well that’s 25 years on the major items, so I hope I’ll be done before that 😏. Then the truck will go to my son and he will continue the process, hopefully!
