My passenger door striker bushing self-destructed recently. I ordered a striker+bushing from Carpenter. The bushing measures ~0.69" OD and does not rotate easily on the striker bolt. This striker was impossible to tighten down without rotating it out of alignment. The bigger problem was that the door had to be slammed, and would then get stuck closed no matter how I aligned the striker.
I ended up buying the OEM part (E9AZ5422008A) from rockauto. $35 bleh. The bushing measures ~0.675" OD and rotates freely on the bolt. This was much easier to install and the door doesn't get stuck. The door latches twice (catch w/ door open, then final latch). Door is flush with frame, locks work, there's no rattling, etc. Hooray, I think.
One thing: Is the door button/latch supposed to give a bit of a "thunk" when opening the door? I could have sworn it did this. Am I just mis-remembering? Right now, the button just goes in and out with minimal resistance, as if the door's locked. But again, everything seems to be working properly.
Yes, I found all of those threads *after* trying the repair myself. Swish!
It's amazing how much easier it was with the OEM part. But I'm still wondering if I just imagined that door button "chunk" when opening the door before.
