Hurst shifter problem need help

So I’ve been cleaning up the linkage on my 3 speed and know how to align everything now. I was coming across a problem today because the bolt on the side of the shifter that should keep it in place moves forward mainly when shifting into reverse. The other gears it doesn’t move as much but I’m assuming maybe it needs a lock washer instead if whatever this is in the picture? Anything will help thank you!

If it "moves forward" is it because the shifter is broke? If you mean that it "rotates" like it's going to loosen up, just use two nuts locking together.

yea I assumed that but should I take one of those lock washers and put it on the inside of one of those screws and take the other off? There’s two of those screws on the one side? But yes it’s not broke it just rotates forward but I did tighten what’s on there and it still moves

not sure i understand your question, but lock washers belong against the nut side of the bolt; however, if you have 2 nuts (one working as a lock nut) i don't see any reason to use 2 methods to prevent the nut from backing off.

sorry the shifter is moving forward with the gears instead of staying still especially bad going into reverse(it’s a 3 speed) seems this setup is not strong would split lock washer and a bolt hold it better?

ahhh i understand. i'm not an expert on this type of thing, but i don't think either would be very different from the other. might be a red Loctite scenario?

It's better you don't start more thread on this topic. It keeps the info gathered and possible solution in the same place should someone else need to find it.

In this thread did you try the link I posted. Did you find the library of Hurst shifters. There are diagrams and installation instructions there.

Hurst shifter

So I ended up getting a washer, split lock and a new bolt. It is staying way tighter now but for some reason when the truck is on it makes me push into reverse more and in turn that shift body moves slightly. Would loctite easily do the trick
