2002 Possible Grounding Problem?

What's the most likely cause of my 02 7.3 PS erratic surging/accelerating without changing any pressure on my fuel pedal and also once engines warmed up, it starts misfiring, jerking & cutting off for no apparent reason? I've been fighting it for almost a solid year to no avail! All new OEM sensors, checked & repaired wiring harness shorts, etc. all the most common culprits. Throws several erratic codes on high-end Snapon reader but check engine light rarely lights up? I watched recent YouTube video recommending checking main battery grounds and all other ground locations but wondered if this is common issue with other 7.3's & any grounding location diagrams anywhere? Thank you! Very Desperate

Battery connectors are a common failure. Easy check with an ohm meter.

My passenger side terminal failed. Wouldn't know just by looking at it. Ohm meter showed an issue though.

I wouldn't get misses, but my starter speed was low and i would get very intermittent stalls and pcm brown outs.

I reused the cables and put ends on them. Used military battery connectors and a very cheap crimper. Worked good and no more brown outs.

What codes you getting?

A few things come to mind...
  • Where are the sensors from?
  • Did you replace the CPS when you swapped "all" sensors?
  • What codes are you retrieving and are those AFTER you cleared the stored codes?
  • How are you monitoring the "pressure on your fuel"?
  • Do you have a scantool like FORScan so that you can see MFDES (Mass Fuel Desired) and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)?
  • I would start with the 42 pin connector and up to the UVCH's and testing those connections as I am not sure what you meant by "harness shorts".
  • Wiggle the UVCH connectors with the engine running, see what you get.
  • You can check the grounds if you like, start with the two on the engine block, then up by the driver side windshield wiper near the firewall.
  • When it cuts out and stalls, do you lose 12v power to the instrument cluster or truck as a whole too is it engine only?
