I have a 1989 F-250 with a 351w and a 5spd. I am having trouble pin pointing the problem. The truck will crank but at the moment it is running extremely rough and the check engine light is on. I checked the codes and was given multiple codes, all of which stated that most of the engine management sensors were out of range(map, hego, tps). With all these codes, it gave me a code for bad fuel pump circuit, pcm to grd. I have been chasing whatever the problem is for three weeks on and off and have done just about every in the haynes manual. The tps and relays have been replaced, tore down the top of the engine and cleaned every thing, fuel pressure is good, etc. I guess what I am trying to figure out is could the ecm be bad and causing havoc. This problem started all of the sudden and is not a constant problem. For example, I could probably go outside right now and the truck would crank fine and drive, no problem but if I leave the yard it will start acting up and the check engine light will come on. Oh yeah, if this helps, the truck has 170,000 miles except for the engine (long block) which has 35,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end.
I believe ther is a ground wire for the ecm close to the battery. It is a single wire connector connected to neg batt terminal. ecm relay might not be powering up ecm correctly. suggest obtaining a wiring diagram for ecm and test power and grounds.
I did all the circuit checks in Haynes and everything checked out. I also checked the resistance in the power grounds and they seemed to be ok. Still pondering the problem. Thanks
