Blower motor resistor location

First post to the forum but have reviewed a number of priors and under search for questions on blower motor resistors.

1997 F-150 v6 with air conditioning. Got in the truck a week ago and lost all but high speed on the heater blower fan. Didn't take the time to check the forum and assumed that, with the motor running on high but not on lower speeds, that it had to be a switch. Replaced switch to no effect. Reviewed forum and found that significant number of posters had similar problems and it came out as the blower motor resistor.

Went and checked a Haynes manual and it gave the unhelpful hint of resistor problems but no diagram of where the hell the resistor is located.

I'm no idiot but I wll be damned if I can locate the beast. Could anyone supply the location of the resistor for the blower motor beyond the "under the dash on the passenger side" location discussed in most of the posts.

Thanks if you can help

Hi Mordechi and welcome to the forum

If you remove the glove box door you should be able to see the resistor. It should be right beside the blower motor. I was trying to find a picture but cant but I think thats how I got at the last one I did.

Resistor Location

I just replaced two of them this morning - on my '99 and '94 trucks. The resistor is accessed from the engine compartment. Passenger side kind of behind the A/C refrigerant canister. It's held in with two screws - the bottom one is a real pain-in-the-*** to get at, but not impossible.

I had only high speed on both trucks. The '94 is working fine now - it didn't fix the problem with the '99 truck.

If you have not bought the resistor yet - they are only about $8.

Good Luck

Whoops

Just re-read your post and noticed you are working on a 1/2 ton truck - my information may not be accurate as I have F-250's and F-350's

Hi Scout and welcome to the forum

Have you checked your heater control switch? That is probably the next thing to look at if the resistor didnt cure it.
The guys in the SuperDuty forum might have some ideas for you too.
