I have a 1997 F 350, 460, seems to be an OBD 1 system. Getting Check Engine light after a short drive, oil pressure and temp are good. I did have an injector wire chewed off by rodents but it is fixed. I had an OBD 2 scanner. I ordered a cable to adapt OBD1 to OBD 2. No instructions, scanner says nothing when scan button is punched and ignition is on. Is there a way for this to work? I wondered if the OBD2 scanner would have the right software.

 

Most OBD-II scanners I have used do not have a battery to run them. They pull power from the OBD-II port. OBD-I does not have that function. Code data flow is also different for OBD-I versus OBD-II so a simple adapter is not going to work even if you rigged up a power source.

 

its a lot easier to just count the flashes. only a few high end tools from the 90s natively built in functionality for both back in the day during the transition OR the highest end tools today do both
