I don't believe Mobil 1 meets the CH4/SJ rating reqired for the PSD. Now Mobil Delvac is designed for diesel engines. Whatever brand you use just make sure it has the CH4/SJ rating on it.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jan-02 AT 08:30 PM (EST)]Mobil 1 exceeds API service ratings SJ/CF. As an SJ/CF rated oil, Mobil 1 can be used wherever an API SH, SG, SF or SE oil is called for in the owner's manual. As a CF rated oil, Mobil 1 can also be used in diesel engines calling for a CD oil.
Straight from the Mobil 1 website. What ever that means...I think it's best that you know the specs and then read the bottle (jug for you PSD boys) that you're about buy and make sure that YOUR specs are listed.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-02 AT 12:11 PM (EST)]Mosta is correct, read the bottle and make sure it meets the specified requirements. Mobil 1 does not meet the requirements for a PSD which requires a CH4/SJ API rating. The higher rating is due to the additive package that is required to keep foaming down for proper injector operation. You can howver use Mobil Delvac which meets the proper API rating.
I note your interest in the Mobile brand of oil. The Mobile Delvac oil is good oil. However my personal experience is with Shell Rotella-T 15W-40. I personally disassembled a PSD with just over 300,000 miles on it because it dropped a valve. When I got the oil pan and rocker covers off I could not believe how clean the engine was. Oil was changed between 3,000 and 4,000 miles. Also the cylinder bores did not show any signs of ring ridges, and close examination showed visable cross hatch marks still in the cylinders. As to why it dropped a valve, we noticed a "lisp" in the exhaust at about 80,000 miles but never gave it much thought. 20-20 hind sight says we should have investigated at that time, not after it ate a valve. I don't believe the valve failure was caused by any oil problems.
