I noticed after posting the link that none of those OE parts listed actually work with adaptive steering. That's when it dawned on me that the heated steering wheel w/AS is controlled by the SECM (steering effort control module), and not the HSWM (heated steering wheel module) like in non adaptive steering equipped trucks, it also uses a different clock spring. Honestly I'm not clear on the entire workings of the circuit, but I don't believe the module is removable from the Adaptive Steering wheel. That is why the repair is to replace the steering wheel.

As for the headlight wires and adaptive cruise control, I don't think they are related to the heated steering wheel in any way, but I honestly don't know. The tech would be following a pin point test for inop heated steering wheel with adaptive steering.

Here is a short video I just found that briefly talks about the modules responsible for controlling the heat in the steering wheel.

To make matters more confusing the company that makes the wiring harness in the link said this when I asked if it works with adaptive steering.

They may just be unfamiliar with the differences between the way it is setup with adaptive steering vs without. I haven't looked, into it yet, but if all AS wheels are also heated, than there would be no use for an aftermarket harness anyway, because no one with adaptive steering would be needing to add heat. (Edit- It does look like there is a steering wheel with Adaptive Steering but without heat for the Lariat)

Here is another video having to do with a no heat condition with adaptive steering wheel.

I just told them the exact same thing you just posted. I believe the tech was unfamiliar with the truck differences and tried to make it work with the wrong components. I think the module in the adaptive steering went bad and they looked for parts that were never on this truck and concluded they were missing or never built from factory. This should be covered by my cpo warrenty with a new steering wheel to fix it imho.

I’ll keep everyone updated with the results or more questions I have so we can all learn from a post and not have it end without a solution.

thanks to everyone that helped out and got the thinking caps going.

Update

Ford dealer has ordered the correct adaptive steering wheel with heat control built in. They agreed that the other parts they were trying to make fit do not belong in my truck. The two ford dealer techs that looked at this were both wrong.

Makes you wonder about the ability of modern day technicians. I’ve been fighting with both dealers since Jan 4th on this. I just didn’t believe it needed re wired. I did think that the other dealer stole a module and connection wires till this last week when my local dealer said a complete rewire is needed to fix after the parts they ordered didn't fit. The previous owner of truck stated the heated wheel did work when he owned it after a phone call to him.

Question was sent to Ford engineers by my local dealer. They confirmed that those two wires listed in a pic above should not be there and truck does not need re wired. The correct parts are needed to fix the non operational heated steering wheel. Which is the steering wheel for 3000 bucks.

my factory warrenty will cover this and all should work. If it does not I will update again.

Thanks everyone for the links, advice and help getting to the bottom of this.
