Never did a 4X4 but want to...if I was you I would find me a 96 Explorer with a 5.0 AWD and take the engine, trans, and transfer case along with all wiring and the ecm, radiator if you could get the whole vehicle to keep as you went along would be ideal...I had a friend who did a 4X4 my son and me did a 2WD cause son wanted a lowered one and more of a hotrod but a lot of it was basically the same...as said if you could get a donor vehicle and keep it throughout your swap would be the ideal way to go
