Trim clip attachment

I am going to need to move all the body side moulding from my body panels to the donor panels. The donor pieces had no trim. What are you all using as a substitute for the original T studs?
This xlt ranger sc truck has a bunch of trim dangit.

Many thanks for any advice.

I think some use a pop rivet.

I prefer a screw. the rivets can put enough pressure on the clip to deform or break it.

The factory used a welded stud. if there's an aftermarket replacement I've never seen it.

a screw works fine,

Sorry do not pay no mind to the red arrows and red box. Maybe this will help.

The 2 letters in the box, tells you what connector/trim clip to use where, according to the diagrams below. And the # required.

When I have such a concern, I just pull it tight enough to securely grip, but not enough to "pop", then I tap the center back in through the rivet. I know a dissimilar metal, but softer aluminum pop rivets are easiest to use like that ... but the steel ones work too.

Was in part why I chose to not reuse my race track ... or even dent trim as I once intended. There were concerns I had about exact alignment, holes inviting rust, dirt behind trim, and trim surface finish ... plus the near 50 year old rubber in the dent trim. My new panels had no trim holes or studs, I was fine not adding trim holes.

My OEM body panels appeared to use resistance welded studs where there were no other means used.

I used one of these on my stud welder to weld trim studs on to my body panels. Very easy to do, worked great. No extra holes to drill, no screws or rivets to trap moisture & start to rust. I wouldn't do it any other way. If you were closer, I'd loan you my welder with the tip & box of studs.

This is what I will ultimately end up using. I used the weld on ones for the trim to two tone it. Didn’t think I wanted the thin side trim I have. What a mistake. I desperately want that side trim now. I like it as is, but that trim is the shi!

You can get the same thing on eBay, Amazon, places like that. I got mine at my local auto body supply house.

Practice welding the studs on a scrap part first, to get the feel for it. Try pulling off some welded studs to make sure you are keeping the heat on long enough. Once you have it figured out, let it rip on the good panels.
