Hi all. My f250 has a 390 and Motorcraft 2v.C6. I am feeling a vibration through the gas pedal when I hold speed starting at 20mph. Shifting to NUETRAL the engine roughness feeling stops.
Its prgressed to a miss at idle that I feela on acceleration on hills.
The spark plugs, Pertronic full billet distributor and its cap, along with taylor. 8mm ignition wires were done 14k miles ago.
My engine has a fairly substantial rear seal oil leak
So I dont know if Im burning oil.
So its probably time for a wet & dry compression test and a leak down test...to see what's what...correct?
Compression test is a good idea, and a in cab mounted vacuum gauge sure would help in the future. Feeling vibrations in the gas pedal could be just linkage too near something. You asked about a failing cam .... I think likely not. A miss at idle that you can feel during acceleration on hills is likeliest ignition related, like plugs or wires. I don't know Pertronic.
The cam is an unlikely cause on a well used engine, your crappy distributor is more likely it. but a bent push rod, bad lifter or valve can cause a similar effect.
Check your plugs and see if they're all firing. check your timing and for vacuum leaks. if everything checks out do a compression check.

i have a couple of vacuum guages...i could run a vacuum hose into the cab and connect up one of those gauges...
Have you checked your u-joints and engine and transmission mounts?
I have not checked either of those yet. The transmission mount is likely bad. I have oil coating the chassis the rear main seal leak . This truck had 58000 miles on it when I bought it in 2018. The only other owner kept a gas mileage journal and a maintenance journal on old fashioned spiral note books the truck has 86k miles now. I have employed the grease gun on all the zurk fittings a few times since 2017. I ll look at u joints...I just presumed them ok due to the P/O being so dillegent with his own grease gun regiment.
That rear seal needs to be replaced...the truck sat undriven in the driveway for 6 years with its huge 50 year old camper on it while the P/O slowly died...likely that inactivity did the rear main seal in.

thanks...the engine is just turning its FIRST 87K miles. Until 10 years ago it had 2 oil changes per year. Then the only other owner got ill and that type of "its my baby" maintenance stopped. It had 58k on it when I got it. I have pretty locked down mileage verification. Gas mileage journal from new. Maintenance and repair journal since new some s very faded but its there to read.
He took this truck from San Diego to Idaho and back most years on a hunting trip. Its huge cab over camper kept it driveway bound except for every v 12 weeks for a drive to his work.
I had to replace the in cab gas tank, fuel pump and have the motorcraft 2v carburetor rebuilt due to bad gasoline in 2018 when it became mine. It has 87k now.
