Battery light and stalling

I have a 94 ford f250 international 7.3idi turbo diesel I recently actually just picked this truck up as I was heading home with it the truck just gave no throttle and stalled out on me out of nowhere but keep in mind I do have a battery light on and last time I had this exact thing happen in one of my cars it was the alternator but that was a gasser not a diesel and this is my first one so I’m sort of stumped. Fired up and drove when I first got it and now it’s like it just drains the battery life almost instantly after stalling out

Do you have a voltmeter so you can run some test?

You need a bunch of money or a $20 volt meter to diagnose this problem. I suggest using a volt meter.

You can get the batteries, alternator and the starter tested at your local auto parts store. They can do the test on the bench, or with everything still installed.

Yes, you need a meter! An inexpensive one is fine.
You'll also need a couple of alligator clips for the meter so you can be sure you're getting a solid reading. Also, whenever you ground the meter lead, be sure its a clean, solid ground or your readings wont be of any use.
A stock IDI truck actually uses comparatively little battery current to run. If everything is off (glow plugs, lights, radio, etc) only the fuel shutoff solenoid on the injection pump and guages are drawing any current. With that pair of big batteries, even if the alternator is dead, the fuel solenoid would probably stay open and allow it to run for hours.

Since you say this is a 94 I am going to ask this question. It is a IDI and not a power stroke correct? I can see your issue happening more so with the power stroke since it needs good power for the computer system. As said the IDI being mechanical really does not need much to keep the shut off solenoid working.
