Need A New Battery
#16
I dumped the MotorCraft batteries when they went from 100 month warranty to the 36 month warranty. (Wouldn't improve the product, so shortened the battery life warranty. UN-acceptable) Went with Odyssey batteries, and haven't looked back !!!! (They cost more, but are better batteries !!! )

Still having some low battery issues so on Friday I stopped at Sams Club and bought a new battery for the truck. $199,99 + tax for a new Duracell brand battery. Battery comes with a 3 year warranty (we'll see). My auto start stop feature has not worked for a year due to engine charging. At night the interior lights were not coming on when a door was opened. A couple other low voltage problems due to the battery and its inability to take a full charge. Was running about 65%. Since the new battery was installed everything is working as it should.

Well I said I would report back so here it goes. I had this battery situation looked at yesterday. They did the extended battery diagnosis and determined the battery is fine. They proceeded to fully charge the battery. Then they reset the BMS (battery monitering system I assume?) and performed a hard reset on APIM (I have no idea what that is). They claim that the problem is fixed. Not sure how they can tell and I didn't have the presence of mind to ask. All done under warranty so no cost to me. It will probably take a while before I know if this is really fixed or not but we'll approach it with cautious optimism I guess. I took the leads for the battery tender off so...

I hope that solved your problems. Because of recent random events, I'm thinking my battery was draining through the trailer wiring. I made a post about this a while back that ever since I pulled a U-Haul to move my daughter, the truck was making a funny bell sound at random times when I pulled one of my own trailers with brakes. The nearest thing I can liken it to is the seatbelt sound on a commercial jet. It all started after that move, the bell, the drain, everything. I hooked up my dump trailer the other day and went down to the neighbors to get manure for the garden. Just took the truck off the trickle charger so I was good. Got there just as they were doing to feeding so I said I would wait. Sat for about a half hour and when I started the truck to go out into the field, I could tell it was drained down. When the start bell (I call it that) sounds like it's muffled in a tin can. That's where I got to thinking my whole problem was in the trailer wiring. I'll know in the next couple of weeks when I get the trailer out again.
