I've been doing some studies and have learned a few things about this matter. In this new EPA congested world there seems to be a few additives out there for cleaning the DPF as you drive, almost like a preventative measure or boost. My question is, has anyone out there done or been doing this to there trucks? I'm not a fan of snake oils, etc., but is this the next thing coming? (Btw, I posted this in the +17 SD page also).
I tried a few and some work…don’t know how they work…my dpf would not static regen below 12%, ran a tank of fuel with lucus dpf cleaner and Howe’s meaner cleaner, after running the tank with the additive…I was able to static regen down to 6% . When my truck was new..it would static regen down to 4%. So in this case I was able to confirm results. But on the other hand…don’t know what damage it causes…more wear on cp4 lobes, sensor contamination, scr/dpf honey comb damage, etc?
I don't know about this stuff, but like some others around here I do use Better Diesel FBC as a preventative measure, and as far as I can tell, it seems to be helping... I keep my OCR turned off until I need to perform a regen and normally for me it's about every 650 - 700 miles, at which point it's still only at 90 - 95%. I don't know if the FBC has anything to do with it, but things seem to be going well in this area, so I just continue to do what I am doing. Also, FWIW, the iron levels shown in my oil analysis remain low even with me using BD FBC in every fill up.

Okay so this product is similar to what Chad uses, Better Diesel, and what I use, Max Mileage from Pittsburgh Power, which is a re-branded Better Diesel. Better Diesel is a FBC, which means fuel borne catalyst, which is essentially a fuel catalyst additive which is supposed to improve the combustion of fuel and to lower the combustion temperature of soot to allow more passive regens . Here's a link for you to read here.
As to elevated iron levels while using this, my UOA reports have not indicated that at all.
Here's a link on one of the products he was talking about...
