Thank you guys for sharing, really hate I missed this.
Was anything discussed regarding emissions regulations and future impact to the 7.3 platform? Particularly tuning.
Not specifically (that I remember). The SEMA guy discussed how they help get things approved and the process involved.
I didn’t get any other photos of his info but this one. He discussed how vendors should explicitly describe the level of certification to help end users know what category the part falls under.

You don’t want that particular one. I heard them say it was a display piece that’s been apart 100 times or something of that sort. 😂

Yes and No... I will paraphrase important info which might answer your questions.
7.3 is not "pre-emissions". Although they don't have cats or egr. They do have an emission level they need to maintain
Don't matter if you are in a county that does not "test" for emissions. E-P.A is 50 state and supersedes all other laws. AKA all 7.3s need to pass emission. Nobody is "exempt".
Yes... people have been visited and contacted for 7.3 tuning and even had to stop tuning
49 state legal is much easier
Getting the cali cert (aka c.a.r-b) is much harder even though it is basically the same standard. Just different process.
With all that said, there are companies that are working diligently to make sure they are certified and that customers have zero worry about parts not passing. I know KC Turbos is pushing hard in this area and as of now all their 7.3 turbos are 49 state legal, hydra tuner has been tested by KC to make sure it is 49 state legal, other customer tuners who won't be named here have also tested for 49 state legal. We are all working together to get 50 state certification but it is not easy. Sorry Cali

Thank you for clarifying, Ive been kind of afraid to ask with all the post 2007 tuning stuff thats been happening.
Very nice to hear that Cody is going. Sabout time.
The first year I didn't give it much thought as I wasn't involved with PHP at the time and it was geared toward those in the performance and aftermarket industry. I just run a repair shop. Last year, well, I had a big trip going on during the time it was happening. This year Bill was pushing me pretty hard after visiting him last spring and then having him visit me during his shop tour last summer and well, **** it. I don't have any desire to be around my house or shop any more than I have to be these days (those of us who want to be struck by lightning or have something heavy fall on our heads never get that lucky) so I'm taking two cross-country trips this year before June.
The Taurus wagon is loaded up, fueled, serviced, and ready to go. I'll be leaving south-central MT sometime between 5-6 AM tomorrow and, per usual, stopping only for gas and sleep.
27 hours of driving and 1900 miles. Woo hoo! I should be at the hotel late on the 2nd if it goes as planned.

Question for those who have gone, if I was wanting to learn more about tuning a 7.3 would it be worth it to go to PHP Summit next year and take the basic tuning class? I live in the west coast so it’s either 5k miles round trip of driving or flying out there. I’m not looking to tune professionally, I just want to be able to tune my own truck better and have a better grasp.
Circumstances are such that I will not be able to attend the Summit this year. Wishing safe travels for you, Cody, on that long journey.
Socket, given your goals for tuning, there's quite a bit you can learn just by purchasing the software (it comes with a few unlocked stock injector tunes), reading the available literature, and asking questions of your peers on the Minotaur facebook group. I've trained under Bill Condron, and it's excellent, but not required for what you want to do. Bill, Andrew Arthur and other tuning gurus are willing to help and quite generous with their knowledge on that page.
I've collected some resources in my maintenance thread at post #985 that can help get started:
